How to play Wordle?

Wordle can be described as a simple word guessing challenge. The goal is to find the correct five-letter word within six guesses. As you make each guess, individual letters in your chosen word are highlighted in green if placed in the correct location or yellow in case they’re not. If a letter doesn’t appear in the answer word at all it will be left unhighlighted.

These clues can be used to help narrow down the word. This is done by finding the letters that are in the word, and where they belong. Go to the Wordle website to see it. Don’t forget: only one Wordle puzzle is released every day. So if you want another chance to play, you’ll have until tomorrow.

Who created the Wordle game?

Wordle was created by Josh Wardle.

How did Wordle begin?

Wordle was created as a family game by Josh Wardle, a computer engineer. He created Wordle so that he could have a little game with his partner while he was battling the pandemic. But, they quickly discovered that there was something very special about this simple guessing game. Wardle then refined the game and released it to the public via Power Language.

The game was first released in October 2021. It had more than two million players per day by the end. It quickly became a viral hit due to the ease with that players could share their results without spoilers on Twitter and other social networking sites. Wardle accepted a New York Times offer in January 2022 to acquire Wordle. It was a seven-figure deal. Congratulations, Wardle. Well done indeed.

Are Wordle words allowed?

Wordle will allow you to type any five-letter word in English and Wordle will guess it. But, each day the answer is selected from a shorter list of the five-letter word more commonly used. There are still many answers possible, but the answer will never come from a word that isn’t common, such as “THIOL”, CAIRD, or MALIC (yes, these are real words).

Sometimes, words are not published by the New York Times Wordle answers. These might be for political reasons or news. One example: The NYT changed the March 30-Th word from FETUS to SHINE after news broke about Roe v Wade being overturned in the United States. It felt that the word “fetus”, which is politically charged, was too offensive in light of recent events.

The New York Times was careful not to allow any rude words to be the answer to any Wordle puzzle. However, there is nothing to stop you from guessing even the most innocuous words, as long as they are accepted words in dictionaries and you know they will never be the answer.

Is Wordle getting too easy for you?

Wordle can get too easy. There are some things you can do to make it more difficult. The first option is to enable Hard Mode. On the Wordle site, click the cog icon in the top-right. Hard Mode means any highlighted words must remain in future guesses. This makes it impossible to use the common strategy of using two words such as “OUNCE” and “PAINS”, which will test all five vowels at once.

The “Ultra Hard” rules can be used to your advantage. This means that any guess you make has to be the answer. If you were playing Hard Mode, but the “O”, was yellow, then you would not have any problem making “POLAR”, your next word. It’s against the rules to play “Ultra-Hard” games. You must follow every clue and ensure that every word you type is possible to answer the question.

If Wordle is still too hard for you, you might try one of many Wordle-inspired games online. One of our favorites, Wordle is a game where you must identify a country based on its form. Waffle requires that you swap letters in a complete grid to complete all the words. Moveable will show you a whole movie in just six seconds and challenge you to correctly guess the movie. Quordle will you solve four Wordles at the same time using the same guesses?
